25 Nov MPM Attorneys Share Insights at XXI International Insolvency Law Congress
MPM is proud to highlight the participation of Luis C. Marini-Biaggi and Carolina Velaz-Rivero as invited speakers at the XXI Congreso Internacional: El Derecho Concursal en un Mundo de Cambio (Insolvency Law in a Changing World), held October 13–15, 2025, in Montevideo, Uruguay.
This international academic forum brought together leading insolvency practitioners, legal scholars, and professionals from across jurisdictions to explore how insolvency law is evolving in response to economic transformation, globalization, and emerging technologies.
Luis C. Marini-Biaggi, Founding Member and co-chair of MPM’s Bankruptcy and Restructuring division, joined the panel on “Digital Assets.” His presentation focused on the unique challenges posed by crypto-related bankruptcies, including the valuation and tracing of digital assets, distributions to satisfy claims, and broader implications for insolvency proceedings involving digital currencies. Luis shared the stage with professionals from Spain, the U.S., and Peru.
Carolina Velaz-Rivero, Member at MPM and a key leader within the firm’s Bankruptcy and Restructuring division, participated in the panel on “Small and Medium Business.” She spoke on the role of Subchapter V bankruptcies in enabling small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to reorganize more efficiently and cost-effectively. Drawing on lessons learned since Subchapter V’s enactment, Carolina contributed alongside colleagues from Argentina, Peru, and Uruguay.
We thank the Uruguay Chapter of the Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Concursal (IIDC) for hosting a dynamic and thought-provoking event, and we commend both Luis and Carolina for representing MPM on this international platform and contributing to global discourse on the future of insolvency law.
