Ignacio focuses his practice in commercial litigation and insolvency and bankruptcy litigation matters. He regularly represents most local banks in Puerto Rico, private debt and equity funds. He also represents the Puerto Rico regulator office of financial institutions in enforcement actions and receiverships for the liquidation of international banks and the Puerto Rico Fiscal Agency and Financial Advisory Authority in the PROMESA Title III cases.
He has been consistently recognized in Best Lawyers® in Puerto Rico for his work in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law since 2022. Prior to joining Marini Pietrantoni Muñiz LLC, Ignacio worked in a boutique bankruptcy law firm representing Chapter 7 Trustees, corporate debtors and creditors in complex bankruptcy litigation proceedings. Ignacio also has significant experience in representing consumer creditors in liquidation and rehabilitation proceedings.
He is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Ignacio is a member of the Puerto Rico Bankruptcy Bar, the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Concursal, the Federal Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
Ignacio holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration (BBA), with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics, from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. He obtained his Juris Doctor in 2012 from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, where he wrote an article about the Exempt Portfolio Interest Sections of the Internal Revenue Code in the Business Law Journal.
