Overview

Ignacio focuses his practice on commercial litigation and insolvency, restructuring, and bankruptcy litigation matters. He regularly represents most commercial banks in Puerto Rico, as well as private debt and equity funds, and equity holders. He also represents the Puerto Rico regulator’s office of financial institutions in enforcement actions and receiverships for the liquidation of international banks, as well as the Puerto Rico Fiscal Agency and Financial Advisory Authority in PROMESA Title III cases. He serves clients across Puerto Rico and the U.S.

 

Ignacio was chosen as part of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s “40 Under 40” Class of 2025 and is also part of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges’ NextGen Class of 2025. During the same year, he was also ranked in Chambers and Partners as an “Up and Coming” attorney in Dispute Resolution: Bankruptcy | Latin America. He has been consistently recognized in Best Lawyers in Puerto Rico for his work in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law since 2022.

 

Prior to joining Marini Pietrantoni Muñiz LLC, Ignacio worked in a boutique bankruptcy law firm representing Chapter 7 Trustees, corporate debtors and creditors in complex bankruptcy litigation proceedings. Ignacio also has significant experience in representing consumer creditors in liquidation and rehabilitation proceedings.

 

He is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Ignacio is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Puerto Rico Bankruptcy Bar, the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Concursal, and the Federal Bar Association.

 

Ignacio holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics, from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. He obtained his Juris Doctor in 2012 from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, where he authored an article on the Exempt Portfolio Interest Sections of the Internal Revenue Code for the Business Law Journal.
